Training focused on the digitalization of family and civil registration is currently underway in Adama. Mr. Bikila Mezgebu, Deputy Director General and Head of the Citizenship Sector, who attended and evaluated the session, stated that digitalizing family and civil registration is a foundational step for the country.
He added that the training being provided in Adama on the system—developed by the institution in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence Institute—plays a significant role in achieving the institution’s goals. He noted that this system, designed to digitize family and civil registration, contributes greatly to the realization of Digital Ethiopia 2030. Staff members attending the session expressed that the training is highly beneficial for performing their duties at a superior level.
Alongside the technology training, a study for the institution’s three-year strategic plan is being conducted in Adama. After reviewing the progress on-site, Deputy Director General Bikila stated that the institution has achieved remarkable results over the past few years, attributing this success to being guided by evidence-based planning and research.
Mr. Bikila further emphasized that since the service is a security-related institution, it is essential to operate while understanding this specific institutional character during the strategic planning process.
He added that recognizing the Immigration and Citizenship Service as a major institution responsible for serving over 130 million people, the value of being led by strategic design and planning is immense. He urged all employees participating in the strategic plan preparation to fulfill their responsibilities properly to further sustain the institutional reforms currently underway.
