Addis Ababa, March 9, 2026 – The Immigration and Citizenship Service (ICS) is celebrating International Women’s Day under the theme: “50 Years of Women’s Voice for Equality and a Prosperous Ethiopia.” To mark the occasion and demonstrate the executive capacity of women, services for foreign nationals, foreign registration and monitoring, and VIP passport services are being provided exclusively by female staff today.
During the celebration, the Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Service, H.E. Selamawit Dawit, noted that the holistic contribution of women is the foundation for national growth and the leaven for institutional building.
Stating that women’s role in national development and community building is irreplaceable, she added that women can achieve their goals through diligence. H.E. Selamawit Dawit further explained that the institution is undertaking multifaceted work to empower women, emphasizing that they should persevere through challenges to enhance their execution capacity and work ethic.
To ensure employees can work without worry, a childcare center was inaugurated. The Director General noted that this center allows mothers to monitor their children nearby, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to supporting natural maternal processes in the workplace.
In honor of the day, free breast cancer screenings are also being provided to the institution’s employees in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
Deputy Directors General, management officials, and staff members of the service were in attendance at the ceremony.
