Hawassa, March 1, 2026 (Yekatit 22, 2018 E.C.) — In celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8), a training workshop is being conducted in Hawassa city. The program aims to strengthen women’s holistic participation across all sectors and empower them to fulfill their roles in nation-building with excellence and dedication.
Opening the session, the Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Service (ICS), H.E. Selamawit Dawit, highlighted that March 8 is a day to honor women’s identity, their social responsibilities, and their vital contributions to life.
“This is a special day,” she remarked. “A woman is a leader and a mother; these are her natural gifts. These natural qualities must be nurtured through self-empowerment.” Sharing her life experiences, she added, “Women have the strength to carry the burdens of societal fractures. The world is a battlefield for women; therefore, protecting oneself, learning, and persevering are essential.”
She further noted that Ethiopian women mirror global history and that the country accords them significant status. “Since the reform, there are great opportunities for women. If a woman believes she can, she will,” she stated.
The Director General emphasized that “personal effort leads to public reward,” mentioning that the institution has established principled frameworks to strengthen women’s participation. she urged participants to build themselves in various ways, strive for work excellence, dream big, and prepare internally for national missions through mutual support.
Participants from various departments noted that the institution has been able to make bold decisions under women’s leadership. They described this as a fruit of the ongoing reforms and a living example for them, expressing that they expect to gain significant guidance from the training.
